This issue can be caused by several reasons. Can you access shares on the Samba server properly? Do you have a firewall on the Windows 7 computer? If so, please temporary disable it and check the result again. If the issue persists, please refer the following article to change the authentication level in Windows 7.Network security: LAN Manager authentication levelPlease change the level to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated".The above report is not detail and cannot help us to find out the root cause. If the issue is not resolved, please try Network Monitor 3.3. 1) Download NetMon3.3.2) Launch NetMon3.3.3) In the Microsoft Network Monitor 3.3 window, click Create a new capture tab 4) In the new tab, select all the Network Adapters in the Select Networks window.5) Go to sync time page. Then, switch to Network Monitor, press F5 to start NetMon.6) Try to sync time.7) Go back to the NetMon window and press F7 to stop the NetMon.8) Press Ctrl+S to save the Netmon file named test. You may find all packs between 192.168.178.22 and 192.168.178.27. Select them, right-click, choose Copy. Then paste in your next post. Lets analyze it. Arthur Xie - MSFT

Hi Matthias, We can find that the NTLM authentication is successful. Now the issue should occur on the enumeration. I suggest that you try the following steps. 1. Open services.msc, check the following services. Remote Access Auto Connection ManagerRemote Access Connection Manager Please manually enable them and disable them to check if the work properly. 2. Please check if the TCP 139 port is blocked on the Windows 7 computer by your firewall. 3. Please ensure that NETBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled. You may refer: Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP Important Note: Microsoft provides third-party contact information to help you find technical support. This contact information may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this third-party contact information. 4. Enable related policies. To do so, please: a. Enter gpedit.msc in the Start Search box. b. Open Computer Configuration/Windows Settings/Security Settings/Local Policies/Security Settings.c. In the right pane, enable the following policies: Network access: Allow anonymous SID/name translationNetwork access: Let Everyone permissions apply to anonymous users Also please disable the following policies. Network access: Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accountsNetwork access: Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accounts and shares If the issue still occurs, please temporary disable the firewall on the Windows 7 computer.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Hi, I cannot get the situations of the protocol, ports, and authentication when the issue occurs. Trace from Network Monitor would be more helpful on it. Therefore I suggest you capture Network Monitor traces and paste related data pack in your post. Meanwhile, please try the following steps. 1. Open regedit. 2. Locate to the following branch: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters 3. Add a new REG_DWORD key with the name of "Smb2" (without quotation mark) Value name: Smb2Value type: REG_DWORD 0 = disabled1 = enabled Please set the value to 0 to disable SMB 2.0.5. Reboot. Does it work? If not, please delete this value to enable SMB 2.0 again. We need more information for troubleshooting then.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Hi,hm, i had already post a trace from Network Monitor 3.3 in my 2nd post in this thread. Shouldi really post full packet decodes in this Thread ? I you provide me a mail adress, i can send a binary capture to you...The above registry key may i try at home this evening.Sorry, but I cant't open a PSS Case for problems with "Technisat SAT receiver" ;)Matthias

I've found a lot of questions of people on the internet having the same problem. for some media players usingthe share name directlyorusing the IP number instead of the netbios name helps, but my networked dvd player browses the network and wants to enumerate the smb shares using the guest account. Unfortunately none the workarounds I found on the internet help here.So for me Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2 as media server just does not work, while Vista did work. On the internet I found claims the Windows 7 early Beta's did not have this problem, while the RTM version does.So I think it is a bug in the Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2 SMB implementation thatwas introduced later. This probably happened because there was a security problem with the SMB NetShareEnum request.Any clues how to solve this?I discovered anotherproblem which may be related. I have two Windows 7 computers, a laptop with 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate, and a Zolder PC with 32 bit Windows 7 Ultimate. The whole day I am copying files around between the two machines. In Vista I could get this to work, under Windows 7 and 2008 R2 not.I have the same problem with my network-enabled media player. My setup:1. Windows firewall is OFF2. Network sharing options.- network discovery is ON- file and printer sharing is ON- anyone with network access can read and write files in the public folders- enabled file sharing for devices that use 40- or 56-bit encryption3. Local security policy.- Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accounts - disabled- Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accounts and shares - disabled- Let everyone permissions apply to anonymous users - enabled- restrict anonymous access to named pipes ad shares - disabled 4 guest account is on5 SMB2 disabled Hello Guys, I've got the same problem - is there any way to work around? @ Pieter Stoffelen: as it works to speak with IP-addresses it is possible to make favourites with ziova-player - once they are stored the shares will be accessible. But this does not solve the problem that no new favourites can be created ... kind regards, Alois

The MS-RAP protocol is no longer supported in Windows 7/Windows 2008 R2. If you are using a SAMBA client, use a RPC version instead of a RAP version. If you are using a hardware device (like me - a Media Gate MG-35), you are out of luck... 5.3.1 Member Protocol Roles http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee392570(PROT.10).aspx The Remote Administration Protocol[MS-RAP] is an administrative protocol whose function has largely been replaced by newer protocols. In the File Access Services System, [MS-RAP] is used as a discovery protocol. All Microsoft Windows® clients can discover servers by using [MS-RAP] to retrieve a list of servers from the Browser Service[MS-BRWS]. [MS-RAP] also supports certain client and server administration methods, such as SMB file share enumeration, but this functionality has been superseded by [MS-WKST] and [MS-SRVS]. Beginning with Windows® 7 operating system, [MS-RAP] is no longer enabled for these methods. Moreover, although [MS-RAP] could potentially have been used by the File Access Services System for the administration of File Clients, it was never used for this purpose. Andrew Richards - MSFT

I'am own the german version of this device: http://www.technisat.com/indexcdd6.html?nav=Sat_DVB_S_,en,64-15111 I currently does not know, if they has been replaced the RAP-Request in it latest firmware (never tried it again). This devices uses a proprietary firmeware. Tthe firmware files of it too small for a linux based firmware. There is no hint to a GPL license. Matthias

I have the same problem with the Technisat HDFS device. Technisat seem incapable of fixing this issue. A solution would be if Microsoft could offer an optional update to work-around the RAP problem - using Xp mode is not an elegant or practical solution for most users.

This thread is typical of many dealing with network share problems on Win 7 - enthusiastic responses at first from Microsoft reps and then SILENCE .... MS should fix this problem with an update/patch! Not good enough!
